National Measles Outbreak Information.
The HSE has asked the Department to circulate the latest news item on Measles. The information can be accessed from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC) website at http://www.hpsc.ie/News/MainBody,15795,en.html
This link gives an update on the Measles outbreak. It talks about the importance of MMR and going to school. It also mentions the older child who might have missed MMR vaccination.

Bus Strikes.
Please note the dates of proposed Dublin Bus Strikes as you may need to make alternative arrangements to get to/from school: Thursday September 15, Friday September 16, Friday September 23 and Saturday September 24.
Closure of Portmarnock Bridge.
The bridge will close from 10.00am on Wednesday the 14th September, reopening at the latest for Monday 26th September. It is likely, subject to the progress of the works, that the bridge will be open before the 26th . Congratulations to Cian Tighe in Fifth Year who won Gold and Silver Medals for PCS swimming at the 2016 School Games in England at Loughborough University.

Latest news: Congratulations to our team who came second in the world in Manilla today. It is an amazing achievement and the whole school community are very proud of our social innovators.
The title holders of the Young Social Innovators of the Year 2016, Global Citizens – Mapping the Future who are from Portmarnock Community School, Dublin, will represent Ireland in the prestigious youth entrepreneur contest, the SAGE World Cup in Manila this week.
The team has worked hard to develop a humanitarian mapping community that can help countries to determine land boundaries. The team worked to digitally create an online map of Lesotho in Africa. The Minister for Local Government and Chieftainship from Lesotho visited the school to give her thanks to the students for their efforts and to emphasise the importance of the work the students are undertaking.
The team of intrepid Transition Year students developed their project as part of the Young Social Innovators’ Action Programme 2016. They were one of over 450 teams throughout Ireland to take part in this year’s programme. The team was selected by YSI, which is the National Co-ordinating body for SAGE, to represent Ireland this year at the SAGE World Cup in Manila. The will make a 35-minute live presentation to a panel of business and educational experts about their innovative design and plans for the future. They will compete against other groups of young people from 20 countries around the world. The overall SAGE World Cup Winner will be announced on August 15th at a gala awards ceremony and the students will be accompanied to Manila by their teachers / YSI Guides, Colette Cronin and Niall Fitzgerald.

Official Visit from Lesotho Ministry.
Minister for state at Foreign Affairs Joe Mc Hugh, The Honourable Minister Dr. Sekatle, Minister Alan Farrell, Senator James Reilly meet with Ms. Deeney, Ms. Cronin and Colin McAndrew at a dinner in The Grand hotel on the occasion of the official visit of The Ministry of Local Government and Chieftainship to Ireland. The dinner was hosted by Fingal CC.

Earlier this year Portmarnock Community School won Young Social Innovators with their project “Global Citizens Mapping The Future”. From an entry over 7,000 students nationally the students from Portmarnock community School came out on top with their innovative project designed to assist developing countries. They now travel to The Philippines in August as one of 32 countries where they will showcase the use of technology as a tool for the combat of global issues such as global warming, food security, access to water and other issues facing our global village.
The team travelling consists of Emma Ford, Colin McAndrew, Ravikanth Gollaplli and Anbu Sundaravadivelu. They are four students of 12 who won the national award. The international competition will allow only a team of four to represent their country in Manila.
The students will host a table quiz in The Martello Room in the Portmarnock Sport and Leisure Centre on Friday July 8th beginning at 7.30. Teams of for will contest a fun event and and you can join local celebrities in supporting these students as they represent Ireland in such a prestigious event.
