Course Overview: With the 1916 Rising Centenary just past, Centenary celebration will now focus on the aftermath of this significant time in Irish History. This course gives the opportunity to explore the War of Independence and Civil War from a number of different perspectives, using primary and secondary sources.
This will include a study into various different groups including the IRA, Cumann na mban, the Black and Tans, and the regular British Army. Key figures will include Michael Collins, Tom Barry, De Valera, etc.
Primary and secondary source extracts will be provided, and there will be ample opportunity for debate and discussion on the historiography of the event. There will also be an option to take part in a historical walking tour of the relevant City Centre sites relating to this time in history.

About the Tutor: Samantha Murphy is a religion and history teacher at PCS. She has a first class honours teaching degree in Religion and History. In 2009 she completed her M.Phil in Modern Irish History at Trinity College Dublin. With a passion for Irish history, and years experience leading historical walking tours around Dublin, Samantha invites you to partake in this course to explore key events like the Kilmichael Ambush, and the dreaded Irish Civil War.
