Fiachra Verjans MacDermott writes about his Archery achievements. “I recently qualified to compete in the European Junior Archery Championships. I am one of only two Irish archers competing in the competition which takes place in Slovenia (May 19th – 25th). My qualification comes after I successfully defended my Irish Indoor archery cadet record, and became the first Cadet to also win the Senior Men’s title in the same competition.”
On Friday 9th May Ms Norris and Ms Bradley accompanied their Fifth-year English classes to the Irish Film Institute to see ‘I’m Not Scared‘, the film that the students are studying as part of their comparative course for their Leaving Certificate English. This was a great opportunity to see the film on the big screen and the experience was enjoyed by all involved.
Ms Bradley writes “Congratulations to Second-year students Ailbhe Quearney and Megan Healy whose short stories were shortlisted for the Irish Times Fighting Words Supplement 2014. Their work has been forwarded to Newstalk, who requested some pieces of short fiction by young writers and who hope to publish some of these pieces on their website over the new few months. The Selection Committee commented that ‘all those on the shortlist demonstrated great creativity and skill’ and stated that ‘the Editorial Panel found it very challenging to select the final twenty as the quality of writing was incredibly high.’ This is a great achievement for the two girls and they would like to thank Ms Haverty who spent a number of weeks with their English class teaching creative writing“. You can read the two short stories here (Megan) and here (Ailbhe).
