“Get Job Ready”: Communications and Etiquette Workshop

Portmarnock Community School Adult Education Dept.

Saturday April 13th 2019   10am – 2pm                    €20                

This workshop is aimed at those age 16 years and up, who are in need of some practice and confidence in developing their interview skills and general ability to successfully gain and start first employment opportunities, whether it be a part time or summer job or a first position after gaining a qualification. Also ideal for those looking to improve their confidence with portfolio interviews or college course application interviews.

Topics covered are as follows:

  • 10am to 10.45am:  How to ace a Job Interview: Points to consider before you start to write your CV, layout, content, order of headings and overall impact.
  • 10.45 to 12 midday  The Interview:  First Impressions; tackling tough questions; panel interviews; online profile
  • 12midday to 12.30 Lunch/Coffee Break  
  • 12.30 to 1.15pm              Marketing Yourself: Identifying personal strengths and weaknesses; management of change.
  • 1.15pm to 2.00pm          Business Etiquette:  Formality in the Workplace; self-confidence; verbal strength

About the Tutor:   

Brenda Harte, former Principal of Scoil Bhride, Donaghmede was previously a staff supervisor in Guinness Brewery, Dublin.   She is involved in the teaching profession for 36 years and is currently engaged as an independent consultant in the fields of Communications, Business and Human Resource Skills.   Brenda currently works with 2nd and 3rd level students and has been a Communications Supervisor in the Guinness Brewery and tutored in the Training Division of the Irish Times.

Qualifications:  BEd., MA, LLCM and ALCM.
