On behalf of the whole school community, I wish to extend our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Govan Jolliffe Byrne. We cannot comprehend the terrible shock and grief they are feeling but we are keeping them in our thoughts and prayers at this most difficult time.

We are also deeply appreciative to the management and staff of the PSLC who, when news of the tragedy struck, opened their facilities for Govan’s school friends and members of the wider community to meet and support one another.

May Govan rest in peace.

There has been a lot of work done by our Literacy team this year to promote reading and writing skills in PCS. As part of that project we encourage our students to read for enjoyment over the Summer months as recent research points to the importance of Summer reading to maintain and enhance literacy skills.

We have lists of recommended novels in the Literacy section to assist with your choices.

Well done to Lauren Fitzmaurice who received the Annual Public Speaking Award.

Congratulations to all of our students who have received their certificates having been nominated by their teachers for contributing to their subject in a positive way this year. One student from each year is rewarded for their enthusiasm and energy in the school community this year.

Well done to the members of the Student Council who brilliantly organised and ran a very enjoyable Sport’s Day for our First Years. Between the tug of war, egg and spoon races, relays and musical chairs there were a lot of very happy and tired students going home after a sunny day of fun.

Day one of the Leinster Finals brought more success for the Portmarnock athletes. It was a great day and a huge achievement for all athletes who made it to these championships.
Craig Giles had a wonderful race. It was very quick and Craig ran a well planned race and should be thrilled with his performance. Fingers crossed for the All Ireland’s.

Harry MacKeogh had a wonderful performance. It was a very quick race and Harrys performance was rewarded with a bronze medal. Congratulations!

Well done to Aaron Cullen who had a great start to his race but unfortunately not the finish we had hoped for.

Well done also to Johannes Borries who jumped 1.75m on Saturday in the inter boys high jump but was unfortunately out of the medals.

Well done to all athletes who competed in the competitions over the past few weeks. Keep the training up over the summer and here’s to a wonderful season next year.
