Thursday 7^th of May proved another successful day for PCS Athletics. The venue was Morton Stadium, Santry and again we were very lucky with a rain free day!!

The day started successfully with numerous athletes finishing in the top 3 of the heats to make the finals. Later in the day Karl Lynch won the senior boys 200m, Fia Donnelly won the senior girls 200M, Mark Morris came 2^nd in the 1^st year boys 100m. The 800m proved a very strong event for PCS with gold medals for Alannah Byrne, Killian O’Driscoll, Stephen James and Craig Giles. Craig not only won the 800m but also set a new CCSAC record! The record breaking continued with Darragh Bolger breaking the senior boys record for shot put later in the day! The relay teams all did very well making the finals but were unlucky just to finish outside the medals. The afternoon tracks events were finished beautifully with a great win in the boys 1500m by Aaron Cullen. In the field events Johannes Borries came 2^nd in the senior boys high jump and Grace MacKeever won silver in the 2^nd year girls long jump.

Well done to all of the performers and organisers who made this year’s Variety Show a glowing tribute to the talent within so many of our students. Thanks to Ms McGlynn, Mr Maynes and especially Ms O’Driscoll for their time and expertise. The night was capped off by a most impressive dance routine from the teachers.

Almost €2,500 was raised for Pieta House and the theme of Darkness into Light was reflected in a night of our very own rising stars.

2F had a productive trip on Friday the 1st of May, navigating their way from the classroom to Portmarnock beach. They had perfect conditions to carry out some geography experiments and put into practice all they had learned in the past year.

Diving into their tasks, all pupils measured and identified rocks as well as drawing sketches of the beach. Thanks to Mr Cogavin and Ms Sweeney.

Active Week Starts Tuesday 5th May. There will be 6th Yr vs teacher activities, Active Assemblies and one or two surprises!

Both Senior and Junior teams entered the U-18 Club All-Ireland Blitz competiton on Sunday 19th April. As last years winners, the competition was held in PCS. Unfortunately the Senior Team couldn’t retain their title, being hampered by injuries and some LC Students with Oral Exams the next day. This was a valuable learning curve for the Junior Team, while also an emotional farewell for some of our 6th yr and Spanish students. Well done to all involved.

Hard luck to the Girls Junior Volleyball Competition in getting knocked out at the Quarter final stage in the All-Ireland Competition. The team has come on in leaps and bounds in the last two months, and trained hard in the mean time. Catherine Healy (23), a past pupil of PCS, has swept the board at the recent KBC National Student Awards. Her Trinity Newspaper scooped four awards including the coveted Newspaper of the Year award as judged by The Irish Times as well as Layout and Design of the Year, Website of the Year and Web Designer of the Year.
