Fiachra on target.
Leaving Cert student, Fiachra Verjans MacDermott recently added the Archery Ireland National Indoor Champion to his list of achievements in Archery. Fiachra was competing at the National Championships held in Carrickmacross, and he secured the Gold medal in the Junior Male Recurve Category. This years success follows victory in the Cadet Male recurve division in previous years. His titles include Outdoor Cadet Recurve Champion and Fiachra made archery history in 2014, when he won both the Cadet Male Recurve title and the Senior Male Recurve title in the same year, becoming the first archer to achieve this feat.
In addition to the 2016 individual title, Fiachra took home the Gold medal in the Male Recurve Team event, as part of a three man team, which included his coach Martin Cunningham and club mate Quintain Noonan.
Fiachra began his archery career at Portmarnock Community School and has represented Ireland at a number of international competitions, including the European Youth Cup and the European Junior Championships.
Leaders on Our Level.
Bond Traders.
On March 10th, students from Ms Cleary’s TY Business class (Brendan Fitzsimons, Megan Healy, Aoife Holton, Ravi Gollapalli, Lleno Anya) represented Portmarnock Community School as ‘Team 007’ at the Bank of Ireland Bond Trader Challenge. Over 200 students from schools across Dublin attended the event at the Aviva Stadium. Students received a tour of the Aviva Stadium followed by the main event: The Bond Trader Challenge. As part of the challenge, students were presented with the task of managing a portfolio of bonds and reacting to market scenarios. This gave students a real insight into the fast paced Stock & Bond Trading environment.

PE Sports Science Expo
Well done to the 2nd Year Sports Science Class participants who presented their projects at the PE Expo in Trinity Comprehensive, Ballymun today. It was a wonderful learning experience for the 25 students who competed against over 400 other students from 35 schools from all around the country. Although the students didn’t win any prizes, they gained some valuable presentation experiences and enjoyed seeing other presentations from other schools as well.
Some of the students also got to record some of their presentation using a mobile radio studio. Well done to all involved. Some of the posters from the groups will be on display in the assembly hall over the next week.
