National Flag Ceremony.

President

flag ireAs part of the Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme a special ceremony is being held in Croke Park on Monday 7 March at which President Higgins will present flags and proclamations to schools.

Mr Higgins ran a competition asking students to submit the reasons why they should be chosen to represent their school and Holly Blakeman, Meaghan Butler and Dylan Kennedy will be receiving the flag at Croke Park on behalf of PCS. Well done to them and Mr Higgins.

Well done also to Billy Irwin who won a shopping voucher in the flag quiz.

The Ice Bank Cometh.

Ice Bank Group

On the 23rd of February, the six students involved in the school’s Build a Bank, the Ice Bank, went to Leopardstown, for the Regional Finals. The atmosphere inside was amazing and it was really interesting to see all of the hard work the other schools put in.Ice Bank Display

The judges were really impressed with the Ice Bank. They especially liked the Digital and Community aspect of our Bank. As a result, we were shortlisted to the Top 8 teams. Each shortlisted team had to give a two minute speech followed by a 30 second answer to a question posed by the Head judges.

We excelled in the speech and this led us to making the Top 5 teams, which meant we would get a spot in the National Finals in the RDS, on the 21st of April. We all really enjoyed the experience, and we couldn’t be happier with the end result!

Walking in their footsteps – 1916 comes alive!

Transition year history students got the chance to relive the 1916 rising by walking in the footsteps of the rebels on Tuesday 23rd of February 2016.1916 tour
Students got to walk the trail of the leaders to many of the strongholds defended by the rebels in 1916. Beginning at Liberty Hall and learning about the organisation of the rising pupils walked to the GPO, Moore Street, Four Courts, Dublin Castle, City Hall, Trinity College and finished at Stephen’s Green. 1916 tour 2The walk was led by Ms. Murphy who enthralled the pupils with her knowledge of the rising stopping at each building and often stopping along the streets where the battle had raged 100 years ago showing the pupils the still visible battle scars of the Easter Rising. The tour finished at Collins Barracks with pupils given the opportunity to explore the barracks and in particular the role of Irish soldiers in history tying in nicely with 1916 centenaty celebrations. Special thanks to the pupils who were excellent and attentive and to Ms Murphy for providing the tour.

Grandparents’ Mass.

IMG_1338A wonderful celebration of the importance of Grandparents in our students’ lives took place on Monday in St Anne’s Church and afterwards in the Parish Centre.

IMG_1356Daniel from 2S played guitar in the background, and he did really well. The girls from 4S were invaluable with their tea- making skills and hospitality and all of the 1st years made a huge effort to mingle!
One Grandad and Granny drove up from Tullamore for the event! Well done to Ms Murphy and Ms Clarke and all of the students who organised the event. More photos can be viewed in the Flickr feed.grandparents mass
