Making music, making memories, making connections
Music is a much-loved part of life at Portmarnock Community School. It brings students and staff together, creates opportunities to perform and celebrate, and gives students a chance to be part of something beyond the classroom.
Whether you love to sing, play an instrument, perform on stage, or simply want to try something new, there is a place for you in music at PCS. You do not have to be an expert musician – enthusiasm, commitment and a willingness to get involved are what matter most.
Our music groups provide opportunities to make friends, build confidence, develop new skills and create some very special memories along the way.
Students can take part in a range of musical activities throughout the year:

- Sixth Year Graduation
There are lots of opportunities to perform throughout the school year, from informal school events to some very special occasions in the wider community.
Junior & Senior Choir
Our Junior and Senior Choirs are really welcoming spaces where students can come together to sing, have fun and perform as part of a group.
The Junior Choir meets in our Music Room at lunchtime on Tuesdays and the Senior Choir meets on Thursdays, under the direction of Ms. O’Driscoll.
There are no auditions for Choir. We want our Choirs to be open and welcoming to everyone, regardless of previous musical experience. Students can simply come along, give it a try and see if choir is for them.
Membership opens at the beginning of each school year for one month. Once students have shown their commitment to the Choir, they receive a Choir badge to wear throughout the academic year – a small but meaningful recognition of their contribution to school life.
Orchestra
Our PCS Orchestra brings together students who enjoy playing orchestral instruments and making music as a group.
The Orchestra meets on Friday lunchtimes in our Music Room under the direction of Ms O’Driscoll, and students of all abilities are welcome.
Whether you have been playing for years or are still developing your confidence, the orchestra provides an opportunity to improve your skills, meet other musicians and enjoy making music together.
Come and be part of it
You don’t need to be the best singer or the most experienced musician. You don’t need to have performed before.
